uMkhonto We Sizwe party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela has dismissed claims that former African National Congress (ANC) president Jacob Zuma’s endorsement of the party was motivated by hatred for his successor, President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Zuma came under strong criticism from the ANC for campaigning for the MK Party.

The secretary of the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal, Bheki Mtolo says Zuma’s endorsement of the MK Party is tantamount to resigning from the ANC.

Mtolo says the provincial executive committee has taken a resolution that party members who campaign for other political party activities will have their membership suspended. He says ANC members who choose to associate with other parties contesting the upcoming general elections are presumed to have left the party.

“All ANC public representatives who form part of activities of other political formation, their membership is summarily suspended with immediate effect and will be brought before the ANC provincial disciplinary committee. Members of the ANC who associate themselves and participate in activities of other political parties that contest elections against the African National Congress, are presumed they have left the ANC and voluntarily terminated their membership and will be removed from the membership register of all our members.”

Ndhlela says the allegations against Zuma have no basis.

“President Zuma is motivated by his love for the people, and his love for what used to be the ANC of President Nelson Mandela, and President OR Tambo which is not the ANC of today. The ANC of Cyril Ramaphosa does not care for the people. It is very clear in the current state of the lives of the people in this country and the economy as it stands. Zuma clearly stated that he is a member of the ANC and that he will die a member of the ANC.”
