McBdride’s assault case postponed

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) head Robert McBride’s assault case has been postponed to the 20th of March in the Pretoria Regional Court.

McBride is facing a charge of child abuse with an alternative charge of assault, with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

He allegedly attacked his daughter during an argument mid 2017, but he claims he only reprimanded her for her rebellious behaviour and school marks.

On Tuesday morning, his lawyers made a u-turn from the expected representations to explain why the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) should not prosecute him and drop all charges against him.

McBride’s lawyers instead asked the court for a postponement to prepare a new witness for his defence.

The witness is set to be one of McBrides daughters.

The IPID head is still out on a R10 000 bail.
