African National Congress (ANC)  is planning to launch a massive monthly clean up campaign. It’s modelled on Rwanda’s campaign led by President Paul Kagame which made it Africa’s cleanest country.

ANC Secretary General Ace Magashule has encouraged residents to pay for municipal services. He was speaking during a cleaning up campaign in Sebokeng outside Johannesburg.

Residents have complained about poor service delivery, especially lack of refuse removal which they say contributes to some diseases.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will launch the Clean South Africa Campaign this week.

Magashule says municipalities cannot survive if people do not pay for services.

The party says this will not be restricted to election campaigning but will continue beyond the elections.

It’s election season and the parties are out in full force to woo voters.  The governing party, which is hoping to get another endorsement from South Africans is promising a cleaner country.

Many complain about dirty towns, cities and areas where they live. In what seems to resemble Rwanda’s monthly clean up campaign, the party is embarking on a similar one.

Magashule also encouraged citizens to pay for services which will enable municipalities to deliver.

“We are here to motivate people to say it’s a campaign like in Rwanda”

The party’s Secretary General also promised to respond to issues raised by several communities.
