Lara Kruger, who was a transgender died last Wednesday at the Moses Kotane Hospital in Ledig in Nortwest after a short illness.

The lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender/transsexual and intersexed (LGBTI) society members have described the SABC‘s Motsweding FM DJ’s death as a huge loss.

Thapelo Lehulere, popularly known as Lara Kruger, who was transgender died last Wednesday at the Moses Kotane Hospital in Ledig, in Nortwest, after a short illness.

She was 30 years old. Her memorial service was held at SABC’s Northwest Regional Offices in Mahikeng.

Thatoyaone Mangwenyane, who is also transgender, says Kruger was a voice for the LBGTI community in South Africa. She says she hoped to see Lara Kruger as their front runner in delivering the society to be accepted.

“What I am going to miss about her is the fact that she was a human being that gave us inspiration; faith that there is a huge possibility that we can work in co-operations like this; faith that South Africa is changing slowly but surely, (and that) even though we are not over discrimination and hate crimes but we’re going to get there,” says Mangwenyane.
