Lesufi urges parents with unfinalised placements to visit admission centres

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has appealed to parents whose Grades One and Eight children’s placements are yet to be finalised to visit their nearest districts or admission centres next weekend.

The centres will be open between 8am and 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Lesufi says 17 000 parents applied on time. However, they have not accepted placement offers at their second or third choices. Most of the parents have not accepted because their first choice schools were full.

“What we’ve done as a department, we have placed them in their second or third choices or where there’s availability. And since we have done that, majority of parents have not accepted those schools, leaving the entire system hanging. But on the 13th and 14th if you don’t come, all the offers that we’ve given you will fall off. And we’re now bringing the 22 000 that have applied late to occupy those places,” says Lesufi.
