Reading Time: < 1 minute

Police in Empangeni on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast have made a breakthrough in connection with Friday night’s killing of six people in KwaDlangezwa near the University of Zululand.

A group ransacked the shopping complex and shot dead five people, including two security guards.

The sixth victim died in hospital on Monday.

The suspects also robbed a mini supermarket owned by Somali nationals and took about R50 000 cash before fleeing the scene.

The money has not been found.

Police have now arrested two suspects aged 32 and 39.

The suspects were arrested early Tuesday morning after a five-day chase in Ngwelezane and Mkhobosa township.

Police say more arrests are imminent.

They believe the arrested suspects are the leaders of a gang responsible for business robberies in and around Empangeni.

They are set to appear in the Mthunzini Magistrate’s Court this week facing six murder charges as well as charges of business robbery and attempted murder.
