KZN Health MEC warns of pink eye infection outbreak

KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu has warned of a pink eye infection outbreak in the eThekweni Metro.

It is reported that at least 161 pink eye cases have been confirmed in the district since February.

This bacteria also called conjunctivitis causes swelling, redness, and irritation of the eye resulting in itchiness and is very painful.

Pink eye is mostly common in children and is contagious.

The health MEC  has urged the public to curb the spread of the viral infection by practising good hygiene habits.

She advises those showing symptoms to report to the nearest health facility, immediately.
