KZN crash caused by human error

Traffic officials in KwaZulu-Natal say preliminary results have shown that a fatal crash in the north of the province was caused by the driver losing control of the vehicle.

Six people were killed and several others were injured when the crash occurred between Ulundi and Mthonjaneni.

The taxi was en route from Durban to Nongoma when it overturned.

Passengers were flung out of the minibus as it rolled down an embankment.

KZN Transport Department spokesperson Kwanele Ncalane says the department will continue to intensify its road safety campaign.

He says this is a major setback considering the fact that the MEC Mxolisi Kaunda has been busy conducting multi-disciplinary roadblocks.

He says: “The minister has been visiting taxi ranks, interacting with motorists, commuters and other road users. Therefore it is a major issue to us as the province but its not going to deter us. We are going to make sure that from now moving forward we make sure that we intensify our campaigns.”

“We will make sure that indeed we maximise the visibility of the police to ensure that we save more lives,” adds Ncalane.
