Reading Time: 2 minutes

The South African Weather Service has issued weather warnings in different regions across the Eastern Cape and the Western Cape.

In the Eastern Cape, a level one warning has been issued for expected damaging winds that may cause damage to property, and cause disruptions of roads, communication and power lines.

This as a result of a series of cold fronts that are expected to result in strong westerly winds with gust of up to 90km in places over the interior.

Regions such as Sarah Baartman, Chris Hani, Joe Gqabi District, Raymond Mhlaba Municipality and the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro will be affected.

In the Western Cape, the City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre says there has been a number of weather-related issues reported since a strong cold front made landfall yesterday.

The South African Weather Service issues predicted disruptive rainfall along with damaging winds until tomorrow.

Disaster Risk Management Spokesperson, Charlotte Powell, says numerous roadways have been flooded including the M-3 inbound at Woolsack Drive and Liesbeek Parkway in Mowbray.

Constantia Nek in the direction of Constantia Main Road has been closed due to fallen trees.

Powell says there’s also a report of a mudslide along Philip Kgosana Drive.

“The City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre and other City departments are conducting assessments to determine the extent of weather-related impacts overnight, and any assistance that is required by the public or communities. In terms of informal settlements, teams will conduct assessments in high risk areas and activate SASSA and other NGO partners to provide soft relief if needed.”
