The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) says it believes the free slot allocated for political parties to advertise on broadcast platforms is fair.
ICASA met with all political parties contesting in the May 8 general elections at its head office in Centurion.
The regulatory body says all is done by the book, and it followed section seven of the Electronics Act when allocating slots.
Election Day is fast approaching and the battle for voters’ attention is at an all-time high.
Political parties have now been given an opportunity to advance their campaign.
ICASA is finalising free allocations of campaigning slots for political parties. At least 48 Political parties have put their names to contesting this year’s National Elections
ICASA has allocated 50% of the Party Election Broadcast slots to all political parties, contesting seats in the national and provincial elections.
Another 25% will be allocated to political parties according to seats currently held in parliament and provincial legislatures.
