There was a hive of activity on KwaZulu-Natal’s coastline on Sunday as beaches across the province re-opened after closing on Christmas and Boxing Day.
Amid the sweltering heat, bathers took advantage of the re-opening of the beaches.
Hundreds of beach-goers were swimming under the strict watch of the lifeguards on site.
Beaches will close again from December 31 until January 3.

Lifesaving SA Watersmart co-ordinator Deon Woodley says bathers are becoming more aware of social distancing and wearing a mask in public.
“There were no major incidents, so the beaches were fairly busy, people are starting to follow guidelines. But a lot of individuals are not doing so, and it would be nice if they would comply. We had a South Westerly blowing the whole day on Sunday. So, the surf conditions would be relatively flat and quite good for bathing with no blue bottles like we had … so it should be quite good,” explains Woodley.
