Reading Time: 2 minutes

Locals have marched to Kebonang Secondary School in Mahikeng demanding justice for a 13-year-old primary school girl, who was allegedly raped by four high school boys yesterday.

The ordeal allegedly happened within the school premises. A spokesperson for the family says the community is concerned about their children’s safety.

“They raped her in the morning. It’s a busy time in the morning, parents drop their children at school, so they attacked her then. She says that some of them were holding her hands and feet, while another boy was raping her.

They were wearing copperheads, luckily, she managed to remove the copperhead of the other one. She saw him and bit him on the hand. Her mother then took her in an ambulance from the school to Bophelong Hospital. At the hospital they confirmed that she was raped and they opened a case.”

Spokesperson for the Department of Education in the North West, Mphata Molokwane, says the department is aware of the incident.

“We expect the investigations of the incident to provide us with the details. As the department in the North West Province, we condemn this incident with strongest terms as it strips off the child’s dignity and will continue to support the victim and provide counselling going forward.”
