Most deaths were recorded in the Western Cape, 171, followed by the Eastern Cape with 101 deaths. KwaZulu-Natal registered 90 deaths; Gauteng 34; Mpumalanga and North West reported 6 each, with Free State 3.

Recoveries now stand at 811 372.

In a statement, the Health Department says all provinces, with the exception of the Eastern Cape, continue to report increases in their cases “with KwaZulu Natal, Western Cape and Gauteng Province registering the largest increases and comprising 81% of the new cases (30%, 28% and 23% respectively).”
