Department spokesperson Steve Mabona says they've successfully placed all learners in the province.

The Gauteng Education Department has placed all the learners in schools across the province.

Over 300 000 learners applied online for Grade 1 and Grade 8 for this academic year. At the beginning of the year, over 40 000 learners were still waiting for placement.

The department set a deadline of mid-February to have all learners in schools.

Department spokesperson Steve Mabona says they’ve successfully placed all learners in the province.

“We had parents who were frustrated, anxious, wanting their children to be placed at their school of choice.”

“Unfortunately we could not assist some of the parents with the schools that they wanted but we had to persuade and make sure that they understand their frustrations in terms of some of the schools being overcrowded and we trying to make sure that we don’t have schools that have a lot of learners because that would have led us to take out some of the tables in the classroom and that was going to be chaotic,” says Mabona.
