Future of Limpopo community doctors in limbo

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Department of Health is yet to address the issue of over 80 community service doctors in Limpopo who are limbo.

The department informed the doctors that they would be placed at hospitals in Limpopo from the first of this month.

However, they have not yet been placed despite the province having a shortage of doctors, especially in rural hospitals.

The Limpopo Health Department’s Human Resources manager Victor Khanyile says, “The unfortunate part is that the processes, particularly in provinces- include consensus and approvals by provincial treasury to ensure that the are no expenditure incurrence that are not approved because of the over expenditure that has occurred in the past.”

“So, provincial treasuries make sure that prior to any individual commencing duties – approval needs to be granted. Finance has to be approved by them, since they have to ensure that indeed there is a budget in this regard,” adds Khanyile.
