Reading Time: < 1 minute

South Africa has officially launched the start of its preferential trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA).

President Cyril Ramaphosa launched the first shipment being made under these preferential terms. The exported goods include refrigerators, home appliances and mining equipment.

“The products that we trade amongst ourselves must truly be products that are made in Africa. Let us focus on that therefore we need to put more effort in building African champions in finance, in retail, in telecommunication, and in expanding between African countries. Where Africans shall, as they move around, pride themselves with buying things that are made by other Africans. This is the only way in which our economies can be able to grow faster and sustainably.”
