Struggle veterans, the family and friends of National Poet Laureate Keorapetse Kgositsile are expected to gather at the Houghton Primary School on Wednesday evening to pay their tributes.

The 79-year-old professor died last week at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg after a long illness. The politician and poet also played a pivotal role within the African National Congress in its fight against apartheid.

The memorial is being hosted by the ANC’s John Nkadimeng branch.

“Comrade Essop Pahad will give the keynote speech and of course in our midst we will have a few distinguished guests joining us. We are anticipating the broader community to join us today (Wednesday). We will be doing a last bit as giving Prof a revolutionary send off,” says Chairperson of the branch Stanely Letswalo.
