Families of two missing girls still awaiting answers

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The families of two young girls who went missing last February, in Boitumelong Township in Bloemhof, North West, are still waiting for answers from the police.

Police discovered human bones in October last year and sent them for DNA tests at the forensic laboratory in Pretoria.

The bones were discovered near the victims’ homes.

The girls, three-year-old Rethabile Tshabadira and seven-year old, Matseleng Nteta, disappeared after going to a local tuck shop.

Matseleng’s mother, Maria, is not happy.

“Since the bones were discovered in October last year, we are now in 2018 and have not heard anything from the police. What we are only wishing is that, the results for the tests should be positive so that we should bury our kids and have closure on the whole ordeal. It has been almost a year that our kids went missing. We did not even enjoy Christmas as other people because we were only thinking about them.”

Provincial police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, could not be drawn into saying when the results would be released.

“I cannot at this stage be exact about the time that they are going to take. I think it depends. I am not a forensic analyst it depends according to the cases. Like I said, we are at their mercy but we are constantly communicating to them to request them to fast-track the matter. But I cannot be exact in terms of saying it will take six months, 12 months or even 18 months I cannot say that.”
