Several families, whose houses are near the scene of a tanker that caught fire on the N1, have been evacuated from their homes as a safety precaution.
This comes after a paraffin tanker tipped to its side and caught fire on the Nelson Mandela off-ramp near Bloemfontein on Tuesday night.
The driver of the tanker and his assistant sustained minor injuries during the incident and have been transferred to hospital.
The fire has since been extinguished and N1 South bound was opened for traffic, while the North bound will remain closed until the road is cleared.
