The Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape says it will make an announcement about contingency plans to resume services next week.

The historic town hall building that was housing the municipality office burnt down on Friday night. The motive of the fire is still unknown.

The residents of Komani are still trying to come to terms with the fire.  Resident Kulile Vethezo says that the burning of buildings is suspicious as there has been a number of municipal buildings that caught fire recently. He says that there must be an investigation on this.

The damages are estimated to be worth millions of rands.

Municipal Manager Nokuthula Zondani says the building is uninsured and repairs are estimated at R5 million.

The municipality says it will make an announcement about temporary accommodation for the municipality next week.
