Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality to oppose dissolution application

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape says it will oppose the court application made by Komani residents for the municipal council to dissolve itself.

The municipality was served with court papers on Wednesday by Komani resident formations Let’s talk Komani and the Independents to immediately dissolve the council.

This comes after countless allegations of corruption, maladministration and lack of service delivery.

Komani residents have had several marches throughout the year to highlight the challenges they face.

But these actions have gone futile, hence the call to dissolve the municipal council.

Executive Mayor, Madoda Papiyana, also spoke against these actions, saying they are a ploy to further delay the delivery of services.

Earlier protests

In February, communities embarked on protests still calling for the local authority to be dissolved due to a lack of basic services.

Residents had vowed to intensify these protests following a meeting with CoGTA Minister, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, which didn’t yield positive results.
