Julius Malema will lead the EFF for five more years.

Political analyst Angelo Fick has described Godrich Gardee’s assertions that the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) would not survive without leader Julius Malema as unfortunate.

The former EFF Secretary General made the remark on Saturday, while tabling his report at the party’s Second National People’s Assembly in Nasrec, south of Johannesburg.

Fick says a party’s survival should not depend on an individual.

“Everyone is mortal and the party should be able to survive beyond the leadership of one person.”

Watch Fick’s take on the EFF’s leadership changes:

On Saturday night, delegates elected new leadership with four new faces joining the EFF’s Central Command team.

Julius Malema remains President of the party and Floyd Shivambu his Deputy.

Four new members have made it to the top six, including Marshal Dlamini as Secretary General, Poppy Moilola as his Geputy. Veronica Mente is the new Chairperson, while Omphile Maotwe is the party’s Treasurer General.

All positions were not contested.

The EFF’s second conference ends tomorrow.
