An Eastern Cape-based boxing company, Rumble Africa Promotions has taken it upon itself to cover the funeral costs of the former Boxing World Champion, Zolani Marali.

This after it emerged that the Marali family had been struggling with funeral arrangements.

Forty-four year-old Mdantsane-born Marali was shot dead multiple times at his Johannesburg apartment last week Friday.

Details surrounding the incident are still sketchy.

Marali, who was affectionately known as “The Untouchable” held the IBO Junior Lightweight, WBF Junior Featherweight and WBF Junior Welterweight titles. He hung up his gloves in October 2015 with a record of 24 wins in 30 fights.

His funeral will be held in Middledrift on Saturday.

Founder of Rumble Africa Promotions, Thembalethu “Terris” Ntutu has described Marali as an outstanding boxer.

“We don’t believe that we exist alone. We exist with our communities. Therefore, any problems encountered by our communities are our problems. That’s why we had to assist and contribute in the funeral of Zolani Marali, simply because Zolani Marali contributed immensely to the development of boxing in our area. He was an outstanding boxer in his primetime. So, it can’t be that his funeral is (not) decent we thought we needed to give him that respect he deserves,” says Ntutu.
