DUT student Mlungisi Madonsela was shot and killed in a scuffle between students and security guards outside the institution last week.

The family of 20-year-old Durban University of Technology (DUT) student Mlungisi Madonsela is calling for a swift police investigation into his death.

Madonsela was shot and killed in a scuffle between students and security guards outside the institution last week.

The university held a memorial service for Mandonsela on campus in central Durban.

The service was attended by university management, students, members of the EFF Student Command (EFFSC) and the Madonsela family.

Madonsela’s uncle Xolani Ncanana says justice must be served.

“To the law enforcement agencies, please play your part up until justice is done. We are also challenging the management of DUT; please do justice, so that Mlu [will] be the first and the last to die in an incident [like this one]. We are also appealing to the South African Police Service (SAPS), to also play their part at the end of the day, justice must be done,” adds Ncanana.
