Dudula leader Nhlanhla ‘Lux’ Dlamini to spend the weekend behind bars

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The case against operation Dudula leader Nhlanhla ‘Lux’ Dlamini will be heard on Monday at the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court. Lux is facing charges of house breaking, theft and malicious damage to property.

The attorney for Operation Dudula leader, Nhlanhla Lux, says he is disappointed that the police misled him to believe that they were ready to proceed with the case today. Lux was due to appear at the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court, west of Johannesburg, this morning. However, he will now have to spend the weekend behind bars before appearing on Monday.

Lux is facing charges of house breaking, theft and malicious damage to property.

On Wednesday, an elderly man laid charges of breaking and entering, intimidation as well as assault against Lux at the Dobsonville Police Station, in Soweto.

The man said he was assaulted by Dudula members after they broke into his home over the weekend, accusing him of being a drug dealer.

Lux’s lawyer, Ike Khumalo, says he believes the charges against Lux won’t stand in court.

“Yesterday, they assured us they will bring him today that’s why we are here. We thought that by today we will be ready to go, but unfortunately, it will be on Monday. We will be here and they will find us ready on Monday. The charges (are) house breaking and theft and damage to property, but we heard they are going to add intimidation. So, we will wait and see. But we don’t think that the charges will stand.”

This morning a group of members from operation Dudula gathered outside the Roodepoort Magistrates Court, to picket in support of their leader.

They were singing struggle songs and calling for his release, claiming he is innocent.

Last night, Lux addressed his supporters outside the Johannesburg Central Police station, where he stated that he would allow the law to take its course, and he did not mind spending time behind bars.
