Disgruntled Moses Mabhida branch to take ANC to court

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Angry African National Congress (ANC) branch members in the Moses Mabhida region in KwaZulu-Natal have taken the party to court. This is in attempt to stop the party from holding its regional elective conference this weekend.

They accuse the region of manipulating branch general meetings, which had led to some members being excluded.

They also claim that many branch meetings were overseen by the illegitimate provincial executive commission (PEC) which had been disbanded in January.

Moses Mabhida secretary Mzi Zuma says they are aware of the court challenge. And has sought guidance from the Provincial Task Team on whether to proceed with the elective conference or not.

Tensions have been high in the province, especially in the Moses Mabhida region.

It’s one of the regions hardest by political assassinations, with 14 members killed since 2017.

Two weeks ago, local activist Musawenkosi Qashana Mchunu was killed.

So far six regions have held elective conferences.

The provincial elective conference scheduled for this weekend, has been postponed to the 8th of June.
