Mahlangu must appear before Esidimeni arbitration

Reading Time: < 1 minute

DA health spokesperson Jack Bloom has rejected former Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu’s statement seeking to delay her appearance before the Esidimeni arbitration hearings to late January next year.

Mahlangu is studying in England and says she is currently unable to appear before the hearings as she is busy with MBA exams. She is challenging her suspension from study by the English institution where she is studying.

Bloom says Mahlangu must come back much earlier to account for her role in the deaths of 143 mentally-ill patients who were moved from Life Esidimeni to illegal NGOs.

“Ideally she should have a conscience and come back as soon as possible to give the reason why she did the whole Esidimeni disaster, because the relatives want to hear what the motives behind the decision were. Apparently she’s too arrogant, insensitive to come back immediately and she’s also being selfish, she wants to complete her exams. And now we’re told she’s only going to come back 22 January next year which is totally unacceptable. People are hurting because of the actions that she took,” Bloom.
