The Minister for Sport, Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa says culture and heritage have the power to unify the country.
Mthethwa has officially launched Heritage Month 2021 at Freedom Park in Pretoria.
This year’s Heritage Month will be celebrated under the theme, “The Year of Charlotte Maxeke: Celebrating South Africa’s Intangible Cultural Heritage”.
In keeping with the ideals of Madiba, we too look to the national days, like for example, the national Heritage Day, as levers to bring about cohesion and national unity. Minister Mthethwa#HeritageMonth2021 #MyHeritageYourHeritage pic.twitter.com/yNhKoqUJel

Mthethwa says the nation’s cultural diversity is through language, arts, literature and other cultural expressions amongst other.
“Instead of employing our diverse heritage as an instrument to cause racial, gender, ethnic, religious and linguistic fissures as has been the case under colonialism, and during apartheid. The constitution of the republic enjoins all of us to employ the diversity of our heritage as a source of strength. We too look to the national days like the heritage day as levers to bring about cohesion and national unity,” says Mthethwa.
