Cape fire leaves hundreds homeless

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Hundreds of people have been left homeless after about 100 wood-and-iron structures were gutted in Lwandle near Strand close to Cape Town.

Resident, Victor Lugwali, says the fire started late on Saturday night.

He says illegal electricity connections are suspected to be the cause of the blaze.

No fatalities have been reported so far.

Mopping up operations have already begun.

Lugwali says it was a big fire…“It was 12pm, I got a call from a resident, she told me to organise the fire brigade, when I wake up I saw the firefighters, they tried to protect the people, the fire was so dangerous, it’s almost 100 shacks, we tried to find out what happened, no-one can tell us the right story.”
