National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has praised police’s National Cold Case Unit and Gauteng detectives as well as arresting officers for being relentless in their pursuit of justice in the murder case of Wandile Bozwana.

The High Court in Pretoria has sentenced all four killers to 30 years imprisonment each for murder.

Mamelodi businessman, Vusi Khekhe Mathibela and his three co-accused, Sipho Hudla, Robert Mutapa and Bonginkosi Khumalo were further sentenced to 10 and six respectively for the attempted murder of Bozwana’s business partner Mpho Baloyi as well as for possession of unlawful dangerous weapons and ammunition.

Bozwana was shot and killed in October 2015 in Pretoria.

“The team really worked hard to build a strong case that was able to stand in court. We hope that this conviction and sentencing will bring about closure to the families of the victims involved. We still have another pending matter on the very same matter, that case is yet to be finalised. We hope that this sentencing will serve as a deterrent and a lesson, that the long arm of the law will not be kind, nor will it be selective to those who are found on the wrong side of the law,” says police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe.

Meanwhile, Bozwana’s friend and business partner, Malusi Molewa says although they welcome the hefty sentence, the trial was a long and painful journey.

“The sentencing of his killers, the thing that we can say wow! What a journey it has been. I think to us it brought some closure to this gaping hole that was opened and the killing of Wandile. Thank you for everyone involved, for their hard work. We continue to appreciate the work of the NPA and the police.”
