A bolt driver has begun serving two life sentences for four counts of rape and four counts of kidnapping, as well as two counts of assault, after the Johannesburg High Court handed down his sentence on Friday.

Emmanuel Mudau had targeted women who had requested transportation from Cosmo City to various destinations between January and February 2022.

Four of the complainants testified that Mudau had refused to take them to their destinations and had instead driven them to unknown areas where he had raped them.

The National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwana says, “We commend the complainants for showing immense bravery, their strength and resilience throughout adversity played an instrumental role in ensuring that Mudau is removed from the society. As the NPA we continue in our journey to build a safer and more inclusive society for all.”
