Bob Mabena to be laid to rest on Saturday

The funeral service for veteran broadcaster, Bob Mabena, will take place at a crematorium West of Pretoria from noon on Saturday.

Mabena died from a suspected cardiac arrest on Monday aged 51. His broadcasting career started 31 years ago at the then Radio Bop at the Bophuthatswana Broadcasting Corporation.

He left the then independent homeland radio station for SABC’s radio Metro – where his star continued to rise. Over the years he worked at various SABC platforms, including television.

At the time of his death, Mabena was working for Power FM. Tributes poured in throughout the week for the broadcast personality, also known as The Jammer, from many South Africans including, President Cyril Ramaphosa, the King of AmaNdebele Makhosoke Mabena II and the media houses he worked for – including the SABC.

At his memorial service on Thursday, he was described as a selfless man who was larger than life, who gave others a big break in the showbiz industry.
