Gauteng Police have arrested three men at Protea Glen, Soweto, after they were found in possession of an AK47 assault rifle and several rounds of live ammunition.

The suspects were arrested on Saturday morning, after the community alerted police to a suspicious looking vehicle.

The Police’s Mavela Masondo says when officers searched the vehicle, they found the illegal firearm and ammunition.

“Upon searching it, we found an AK-47 rifle with four magazines and 250 live rounds of ammunition. The suspects are between the ages of 22 and 29. And we’d like to stress that we really appreciate the community because of this arrest. It can only be attributed to the collaboration between the police and the community,” says Masondo.
