Court appearance of Baby Lee’s mother's accused boyfriend has been postponed to next month

Almost a month since three-year-old Liyaqat “Baby Lee” Akeem Mentoor was reported missing the family is still in the dark about his whereabouts or what might have happened to him.

Earlier today the boyfriend of Baby Lee’s mother appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court in the west of Johannesburg on a charge of negligence, though the matter was postponed to next month.

Apparently, the man was meant to drop off Baby Lee at his grandmother’s house in Roodekrans on the evening of the 16th of last month.  And after finding no one at the house the accused allegedly handed the child to an unidentified woman who claimed to be a member of Baby Lee’s family.

Family spokesperson Estelle Delport states, “It’s frustrating for us as we are still no closer to finding out where Lee is and what’s happened. However, we do understand that they have to investigate. Hopefully, we will get more answers soon. It’s not a good moment for the family.”
