The annual Ba2Cada Football Tournament in Botshabelo in the Free State is getting bigger and better. The two-week event has helped boost the ailing economy of the sprawling gang-ridden township.

32 teams from across the Free State held nothing back in their quest to claim the lucrative R100 000 first prize. The 12th edition of Ba2cada tournament lived up to its expectations.

It is here where you’ll find a reservoir of untapped football talent, with many scouts having their eyes intently fixed on recruitment.

More than 20 000 people flocked to the dusty ground to watch the matches and enjoy the skill on display.

“This tournament has encouraged us to pursue our dreams because we like football. We like Ba2Cada.”

“I think the importance of this tournament is really to upbring the disadvantaged community and the disadvantaged boys who have talent,” some people say.

The tournament is the brainchild of radio personality Nyakallo “Ba2Cada”Leine. His primary intention was to plough back into his community.

“The talent here is massive but the opportunities were very scarce. So, I thought like seeing this talent going to waste the only opportunities that I can be able to give them it’s through football, through the soccer tournament. Basically, it was just trying to expose the talent we have here at home,” says Nyakallo ‘Ba2Cada’ Leine who is the tournament organiser.
