ANC internal battles causing more damage: Analyst

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Political analyst Sipho Seepe says the African National Congress (ANC) is shooting itself in the foot with the continued infighting with just over a week to go before South Africans head to the polls.

This comes after ANC Secretary-General Ace Magashule‘s latest utterances accusing the government, led by his own party, of spying on him and his deputy Jessie Duarte.

Magashule has claimed that his phone and that of Duarte’s are tapped. Seepe says the infighting is harming the party’s popularity.

“The ANC is approaching these elections as a wounded animal because some of these members have decided to leave the organisation to go and start other organisations. We see infighting in the organisation. We see society itself saying, you made promises for the past 25 years, we no longer believe you. So this infighting and public spats are not helping the organisation and can do more damage,” says Seepe.
