ANC challenges under spotlight at NEC meeting

Reading Time: 2 minutes

A myriad of challenges facing the ANC will come under the spotlight as the party tries to reclaim its authority amid upheavals within various structures.

As the party met for its special NEC meeting, a group of protesters from the West Rand accused the region’s leadership of manipulating processes ahead of the Gauteng provincial conference.

Regional meetings which were scheduled for this weekend have been postponed.

The appointment of the North West premier, the aborted KwaZulu-Natal conference and the court challenge by a disgruntled Eastern Cape group will also form part of discussions.

Meanwhile, a group of disgruntled West Rand members staged a protest outside the venue of the NEC meeting.

They are complaining about the manipulation of processes ahead of the provincial conference.

While the party says it’s attending to the aborted KwaZulu-Natal conference, it awaits the outcome of the court action by Eastern Cape members, challenging the validity of the last provincial conference.

They want the Sbu Ndebele task team report acted upon. It’s understood the report recommended the dissolution of the PEC.

The party has also resolved to finalise the appointment of the North West premier.

Supra Mahumapelo resigned a few weeks ago after protests callings for his dismissal.

The outcome of the NEC will be communicated on Tuesday.
