Violent service protests that started in the early hours of Thursday in and around Pretoria, have forced the African National Congress (ANC) party to cancel deputy president David Mabuza’s visit on Thursday.
Mabuza was scheduled to tour the townships in the northern part of the City as part of the party’s electioneering campaign.
Tshwane ANC Chair Dr Kgosi Maepa has once again refuted allegations that the ruling party is behind the instigation of the #Totalshutdown service delivery protest sweeping throughout townships in Pretoria.
Maepa says they cancelled Mabuza trip to allow the local leadership to engage with the concerned residents.
“It’s not the ANC that organised this shutdown. It has affected the ANC. The ANC had a campaign today with the Deputy President David Mabuza, which had to be also abruptly cancelled. This thing has affected everyone and when residents are upset, I can’t find excuses. I must go to them and listen.
“The ANC is leading in 67 wards out of 107 in the City of Tshwane. We are the majority ward councillors in this city. So, we are the people mostly affected by the shutdown because there are no services in the townships. So, the ANC must go and listen to the people,” says Maepa.
