African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) leader Kenneth Meshoe says the party does not want citizens to live in fear.

He spoke to SABC News ahead of the party’s election manifesto launch, which is underway in Johannesburg. The party will also be celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Meshoe says the ACDP’s top priority is the safety of citizens.

He says, “We don’t want citizens who live in fear, citizens who cannot enjoy walking in the streets because of fear that they will be violated. So when the issue of safety and security is dealt with and there is peace and safety, then even investors will come to the country knowing that their lives will be safe, their assets will be safe, what they work for they will see with their eyes.”

Meshoe says parties that did not get enough signatures on time should not blame the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC.)

He says the IEC played a fair game because it made its announcement on time.

“Even when we started from the beginning, when we were given time to submit, ACDP did that timely. Now the problem would be if you don’t have enough people who support you, then it becomes a struggle to find the required numbers of signatures. So those who are struggling with getting the full number of signatures required, then they should join another political party, support another political party.”
