The Abathembu Royal Kingdom says it’s prepared to bury Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in Qunu in the Eastern Cape.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that Mama Winnie will receive a national official funeral on April the 14th.
She was married to a member of the Abathembu clan, Dalibhunga Nelson Rholihlahla Mandela for 38 years. She was married to a member of the Abathembu clan, the revered Dalibhunga Nelson Rholihlahla Mandela for 38 years.
The kingdom’s spokesperson, Prince Siganeko Dalindyebo says, “We fell that as the kingdom Mama Winnie Madikizela-Mandela should be brought back home in Qunu where she can rest in peace because according to our traditions she never even took a teaspoon to be dealt as a divorcee. This home is supposed to play a leading role in the preparations and in the mourning of one of our own particular in the stature of Mama Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.”
Mama Winnie told the SABC that she never had the experience of a normal family life with her children and former husband.
“I was the most married woman. Even though I was supposed to be married and have a family, I’ve never really known what it is to have a married family life, a normal life with a normal nucleus of a family where there’s a father, a mother and children waking up and having breakfast together.”
