Residents of Tweeling in the Free State say they’ve lost hope in their municipality. The Mafube Municipality has been placed under administration.

Some residents here are still using the bucket system and raw sewerage is spilling onto the streets. These are just some of the issues residents are concerned about.

“Municipality should do their job and fix the leakages of water and streets,” says a resident. “I’m voting tomorrow because it’s my right to do so,” adds a resident.

The Free State government says it will do all it can to assist distressed municipalities.

Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela says: “We have a plan to take them out unfortunately because of the finances it’s not going to be easy for us to just let it go that is why we are busy with the national we have a task team that we have formed with minister and national a tough team that is going to assist to make sure that we take these municipalities out of section 139.”

The Premier has also appealed to residents of Marquard, where there’s been violent protest, not to boycott the elections.
