Scores of illegal gold miners were arrested by the Hawks at Mapuve village in the Northern parts of Limpopo.
The zama-zamas, as they are commonly known, are processing gold in their backyards.
The illegal operation has been going on for months in the area and unsuspected illegal miners were caught in the act.
The Hawks made their move and arrested them on the spot.
Some of the suspects are foreigners and others from neighbouring provinces.
The Hawks are conducting an operation where they intercepted a disruptive illegal gold processing operation and have arrested several people. Although the operation was successful, some managed to escape, leaving their processing machines behind.
Crushed rocks and other accessories were confiscated. The gold is from a nearby old gold mine.
