ANC slams Ramaphosa’s Top Six choice announcement

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The ANC has criticised deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa for announcing at the weekend his choices for a new Top Six after the elective conference later next month.

Ramaphosa announced NEC member Naledi Pandor as his preference for deputy president of the party.

In a statement, the ANC has appealed to all presidential hopefuls to respect party processes and refrain from announcing their line-ups of preferred colleagues, known as ‘slates’.

The ANC has also urged its presidential hopefuls not to pronounce on a line-up, or ‘slate’ of candidates to be elected as party officials at its national elective conference next month.

And this action by Ramaphosa has angered the ANC saying the 2015 National General Council outlawed slates with NEC insisting that branch nominations are not tempered with but is reflected and respected.

The ruling party says pronouncing on and circulating slates undermine the branches inalienable right to select candidates.
