Some workers and customers have been held hostage by alleged armed robbers at a shop in the Lebowakgomo shopping centre in Limpopo.
The police have confirmed the hostage situation.
According to reports, a group of armed robbers were in the process of robbing a shop when police received information and cornered them.
A suspected robber has been shot and wounded and two others arrested during a shootout with police.
Several businesses and vehicles were damaged during the shootout.
Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba says they’re investigating attempted murder and robbery cases among others.
“The police were alerted to the incident and, as a result of that, they reacted by rushing to the scene. When they arrived, there was an exchange of fire. And as a result, at the end of the day, two of them were arrested and one of those robbers was actually wounded in the process. Few businesses and vehicles were damaged as a result of that kind of a situation which actually developed.”
