Gauteng police investigate fatal shooting in Eldorado Park

Gauteng police say they’re investigating the shooting incident that occurred in Eldorado Park extension four in the south of Johannesburg that’s claimed the lives of two people in their 20s.

The shooting happened on Saturday but reports of the incident are only now coming to light.

There was also a shooting in the Riverlea area at the weekend which claimed the lives of three people.

The area has been suffering with gun violence for some time now.

Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, “No one is arrested and the motive of the shooting is unknown. A team has been activated to investigate the murders and follow up on any leads received. Investigations continue.”

Illegal firearm possession

Meanwhile, a teenager from Atlantis on the Cape West Coast has been arrested for the alleged possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

Police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk says the suspect was arrested following a complaint received of a shooting incident on the corner of Melba and Long Tale Streets in Robinvale.

Van Wyk says the 17-year-old male will appear in the Atlantis Magistrate’s court today.

“The suspect was apprehended and found to be in possession of a Smith and Wesson 38 Special revolver of which the serial number was removed and three rounds of ammunition. A 17-year-old male was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.”
