The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa’s (PRASA) engineers and senior management are currently assessing the extent of the damage caused by the collapse of a foot bridge on the train tracks between Jeppestown and George Goch train stations in Johannesburg.

The incident resulted in train services being suspended between Johannesburg and Germiston.

Johannesburg Emergency Services spokesperson Nana Radebe-Kgiba says two pedestrians sustained injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital.

“On arrival we found two people that were crossing the bridge and they had sustained injuries. The two people have been moved to nearby medical facilities. At this moment we have no idea what made the bridge to collapse but the necessary departments are here to ensure that those investigations are done and the bridge is removed from the railway.”
