The Deputy Principal of John Mutheiwana Secondary School in Vuwani, Limpopo, says working under difficult conditions over the past three years has encouraged them to work harder to achieve good matric results.
The school has produced 100% matric pass, despite the disruption of lessons due to unrests over municipal demarcation disputes.
Most of the learners in the Vhuronga circuit in Vuwani have performed well in the matric results, despite spending nine weeks without learning due to unrests over municipal boundary demarcations.
Lessons at 26 high schools and 52 primary schools were affected by a shut-down of services that has been flaring up sporadically since 2015.
Sixty learners at John Mutheiwan in Tshimbupfe performed well against all odds, producing bachelor and diploma passes.
Deputy Principal Matodzi Mulaudzi says learners and teachers have learnt to use their time wisely. “Working under unbearable circumstances sometimes makes a man to work hard. We started our lessons early as 06h30 and we knock off after five o’clock, sometimes even during the evening we used to work.”
Matriculants have applauded their teachers for working hard with them to produce the 100% pass rate in spite of school disruptions.
“Our principal, teachers and we put in hard work so that we could pass. This is what everyone was expecting, I’m very happy, so excited. We used to come to school even on Sundays in order to catch up what we have missed when we were not coming to school, that’s why we managed to get 100 percent, ” says one of the learners Nyandano Mathoma.
Vhuronga Circuit where John Mutheiwana School is situated is part of the Vhembe District that has retained its position as the top district in Limpopo. The district has also produced the best three schools in the province.
Mbilwi Secondary has once again scooped the first position, followed by Tshivhase and Thengwe Secondary Schools. The province’s top learner, Anza Tshipetane also comes from the district. She is also the best learner countrywide in quintile four. Click below for more on the story:
