UPDATE: Train crash leaves more than 200 injured in Gauteng

More than 200 people have been injured in a collision between two trains at the Geldenhuys train station in Germiston on the East Rand.

Reports say both trains were ferrying commuters to Springs.

Earlier, Metrorail spokesperson Lillian Mofokeng confirmed that there were 30 people injured.

R24 spokesperson Russel Meiring says, “Approximately 200 people have been left injured on Tuesday morning following a train collision at the Geldenhuys train station in Germiston. Paramedics along with other services are on the scene busy treating the patients. It was found that one of the carriages has derailed but fortunately not overturned in this incident.”
