It’s all systems go for the 14th edition of the Standard Bank Ironman African Championship to be held in Port Elizabeth on Sunday.
The event has drawn a full house of 2 000 athletes, with about 700 from abroad – one of the highest numbers of international participants yet in this event.
American Ben Hoffman won the last two editions and is expecting tough competition:
“I would love to defend my title. I have worked very hard over the last two years. It’s something special to defend your title. I don’t think it’s easy and straight forward as it looks – you know the road – preparing for an Ironman is quite bumpy. To get there and do it twice was really special and it will be more special to do it for the third time.”
