Staff, patients at Alex clinic traumatised after stabbing incident

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Staff and patients at the Alexandra Community Health Centre north of Johannesburg, have been left traumatised after witnessing a man being stabbed to death in the emergency section of the clinic on Sunday morning.

It’s alleged that a group of people chased a man into the clinic and stabbed him to death. Word on the streets is that this was some kind of revenge killing.

Health officials insist that there was only one victim and that he died in the emergency section.

Security guards at health facilities are not armed, in order to protect the public.

The clinic lies between two police stations. The incident happened minutes after a two hourly police patrol.

Health Director Meisie Lerutla says:”We have already decided that we are going to put in turnstiles, we are going to put in spikes and those are measures that will make sure that a number of people cannot just push in and come in without being stopped, as a department one of the measures that we are going to be done is to provide panic buttons in strategic areas.”

Lerutla says that they have handed over the CCTV footage to the police.

The footage will be used to identify the suspects and bring them to book.
